Ching Ngaihte
Missions Personnel Code: "CHN"
Involvement: Support and training
Organization: SIM International
Serving in: NE India
Hailing from North East India, Thang and Ching have been involved in missions since the 1980s.
Thang received the call to serve overseas as a missionary in 1982. He met some young Thai men en route to Singapore, and they were friendly to him. But after some time, Thang saw that they drank liquor, and saw that they were living without Christ. In Thang grew a love for the people of Thailand, a vision he shared with Ching when they were married.
Their decision to serve as overseas missionaries were met with hurdles, and it took 4 years of prayer waiting for God’s divine direction before their family left India. In the meantime, they served locally with Indian Evangelical Mission.
In 1989, the Lord opened a door for their family of four to serve under OMF, and after a 2-month orientation they arrived in Bangkok that same year. While in Bangkok, they were involved with church planting and leadership roles. Bartley Christian Church began supporting them when they joined OMF.
In 2000, their family moved to Manila, Philippines, where they taught at Asian Theological Seminary for the next 10 years. The Lord then called them back to Thailand in 2011 to serve in Chiang Mai, where they worked at Chiang Mai Theological Seminary for two years. After that, Thang and Ching were involved in training missionaries as the Interim Dean of Asian Cross-cultural Training Institute and Regional Leader of OMF North Thailand.
They have two grown and married children, Khup and Nem.
In 2018, Thang and Ching retired from OMF after serving with them for 30 years. They returned to India with SIM East Asia in early 2019 as Mobilisation and Training Consultants. They are involved in the training of missionaries and theological students, and conduct consultations for missions organization leaders, as well as mobilising churches for missions. They focus on training and mobilising the next generation to reach the unreached peoples for Christ.
Thang writes, “Since I was called to serve the Lord, I committed my life to reach the unreached... to tell the love of Christ.... [No] one should live or die without hearing the name of Jesus.”
Thang Ngaihte, was diagnosed with lung cancer in February 2023 and completed his earthly journey around 11:50 pm on April 1, 2024, at Health City Hospital, Guwahati, Assam, India.
