I came to know Christ at the age of 10 while studying at Geylang Methodist Primary School. However, it wasn’t until I turned 16 that I made a firm commitment to join Faith Community Baptist Church. My journey with Singapore Youth for Christ (SYFC) began at 19, during my time at ITE Higher Nitec, when God answered my prayer to grow deeper in His Word. Through SYFC, I not only grew spiritually but also learned how to share the gospel with my friends. This ministry opened my eyes to the many creative and effective ways evangelism can be done. It was also through SYFC that I met my husband, and together, we later became members of Bartley Christian Church.
How I Decided to Join SYFC Full-Time
After graduating from Temasek Polytechnic, I took a step of faith to serve as a Project Servant with SYFC for six months as my first full-time role. This was my way of dedicating the “first fruits” of my life to God before pursuing a career aligned with my field of study. As my Project Serve term neared its end, I was challenged to consider full-time ministry in the ITE sector. However, I initially hesitated, feeling conflicted. Having invested significant time and resources into my design education, pursuing a related career seemed like the logical next step.
For two years, I worked in a design role while continuing to serve ITE youths in ministry. Though it was physically demanding, I found immense joy and spiritual strength in engaging with young people. This season of serving deepened my faith and taught me to rely fully on God. During this time, I continually sought clarity, asking, “God, do You truly want me to commit to full-time ministry?” I desired to base this decision not on human encouragement but on God’s clear direction.
God spoke to me through Judges 7:9-18 during my quiet times and through sermons at church. In the story of Gideon, I saw how God calls and equips those He chooses. This passage assured me that God never calls without empowering. It strengthened my trust in His provision and guidance. Despite my fears about the future and financial stability, I learned to walk in faith, trusting that God would supply all my needs and equip me with everything required to serve Him.
Over the years, SYFC has provided me with invaluable training, helping me develop a range of ministry skills and explore new ways to reach ITE youths. It has been a privilege to see God work through me to impact young lives.
Current Ministry
Today, I am fully dedicated to reaching ITE students, both Christians and non-Christians, sharing the gospel with them, and encouraging them to engage in evangelism among their peers. In addition to direct outreach, I utilize my design background to create engaging content and manage social media with a team. This helps us connect with youths online and transition those interactions into meaningful, in-person conversations about Christ.
As a senior staff member, I also mentor younger staff, equipping them with gospel-sharing skills, guiding program planning, and helping them deepen their relationship with God. Together, we focus on youth evangelism, trusting God to transform lives and build His kingdom.
